Mick Abrahams on why the nEar05 monitoring speakers rock…
Friday, October 10, 2008
Mick Abrahams has been compared to some of the best blues-based rock guitarists of the late sixties including Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Peter Green and even now, forty years later he’s still going strong...
Mick’s career has seen him as a member of several bands including Neil Christian’s Crusaders which he joined as Jimmy Page’s replacement. He was also one of the founding members of Jethro Tull until a clash of personalities with wild stage persona Ian Anderson instigated him to leave the band.
Then came the progressive blues band Blodwyn Pig and their two albums – ‘Ahead Rings Out’ and ‘Getting To This’ – both of which spent several weeks in the UK Top Ten. Again, after musical differences within the band, Mick jumped ship and went on to form the Mick Abrahams Band with appearances on Top of the Pops and Radio One.
Today, Mick continues to produce new music – from slow tear-jerking blues to acoustic finger-picking ditties and driving fist-waving rock and is shortly due to release a new album in celebration of his 65th birthday featuring such guest artists as Paul Jones, Geoff Whitehorn and Riki Massini to name a few. The album also ties in with the launch of Mick’s long-awaited autobiography ‘What is a Wommett’.

Mick is a real fan of ESI’s award-winning nEar05 monitoring speakers and given his decades of experience as a professional musician he certainly knows a great pair of speakers when he hears them…
“Choosing speakers is always difficult, and to get the right set up for what you´re recording and mixing can be a minefield. I am currently in the process of mixing the recording of my 65th Birthday concert that we did earlier this year and as I have just upgraded my studio and changed a few things around, one of the major factors was speakers.

My preference is always for speakers that are comfortable to display a particular characteristic that suits my hearing. Of course, the speaker that you use must be responsive to the room and general surroundings and as I only have limited space, my studio leans more toward post-production (although I tend to do all my song writing in there) and therefore when I first heard these nEar05 speakers I was completely convinced.
I think that the nEar05s are excellent speakers for my needs in a recording and monitoring situation – they definitely get my vote as the best speakers of their type. Love ‘em to bits!! ”
