Rob Papen announces 'RP-Verb'
Friday, July 3, 2009
Rob Papen has announced that his next product will be an algorithmic reverb plug-in: RP-Verb. It is hoped to be ready for release by the end of July, 2009 and will be available for Windows and Mac OS X in VST, AU and RTAS plug-in formats with an RRP of £129.
So why a reverb plug-in?
In 1981, while Rob Papen was recording in the Wisseloord studios, legendary engineer Ronald Prent sent the sound of electronic drums, using speakers, into a big recording room and picked up the sound with microphones to add "room" to the electronic drum sound. At the time, as a young synth player, Rob became obsessed with rooms and reverbs.
Together with music software developer Jon Ayres, Rob Papen explored new algorithms and, after much testing and tweaking, RP-Verb was born.
The full specification is yet to be confirmed but will include numerous user controls, 'space types' and colours, not to mention a huge variety of presets designed to suit all genres of music. More details coming soon!
