Lamb's praise for Spectrasonics in Future Music mag

Thursday, October 6, 2011

Future Music magazine´s latest issue features an extensive and interesting ´In the Studio´ feature with Lamb´s Andy Barlow. Having interviewed Andy ourselves for a former T+S feature, we knew that Andy is a fan of Spectrasonics products so we were really pleased to read is praise of the instruments in the Future Music article. Here´s a few snippets...

FM asked Barlow what wonders are currently in his soft synth registry?
There’s a whole list of stuff, really. The Spectrasonics stuff is usually what I reach for first just because, to me, it simply sounds that much better.

What computers are you running everything on?
I’ve got an eight core Mac Pro… one of the latest ones, with about 20GB of RAM in it. You’d think that wouldn’t struggle with anything but I love the Spectrasonics plug-ins and they’re just mammoth!

[...]

I do really use up every bit of that processing power with four Trilians, three Omnispheres and four NI Batterys. I hate bouncing stuff to disk and freezing tracks as I find that all stilts the creative flow. It’s OK when it’s in the mixing stage but when you’re writing it’s not good. I do a bit of music technology teaching at a University and the first tip I tend to give people is to try and do things quickly. The more you think about stuff, usually the worse it gets. Obviously there are exceptions to that but your first idea is often the best idea.
