A deep-sampled library dedicated to soundtrack piano and focused on capturing the warmth, the wideness, the deep resonance and softness of a world class grand. We’ve spent years searching for just the right one to capture. With ears pressed to wood and eyes hovering scant inches above strings, we tested literally hundreds of them before finding this one special piano. The sound of a piano is defined by a thousand things, from the lacquer on the wood to the hardness of the felt in the hammers.
Our goal was purely sound: a soft, deeply resonant, rich, warm and soulful sound. We had no concern for brand, model, design or pedigree. We’re not even going to mention the model and brand of the piano we chose for this library. Not because it is important, but because it is truly irrelevant. With all preconceived notions and expectations aside, this piano will either speak to you or it won’t.
This is a big, dark, warm, lush, resonant piano. It’s intended to be a scoring piano. It is a piano for epic soundtracks, not fancy dinner parties. This piano wears a helmet flak jacket, not a tuxedo with tails. This piano is a door gunner, not a dancer. This piano doesn’t retire to the New England countryside triumphantly after an extended run at the Met. It’s buried 6 feet under in the middle of a Chicago downpour after being gunned down by the mob. If you ever find yourself storming a beach in slow motion or charging into a burning building to save a baby, then this is the piano that will play when your final credits roll. If you find yourself wearing a powdered wig and leggings, then this is not your piano… unless you’re also carrying a musket and you’ve just been ordered to fix bayonets. This piano doesn’t do romantic comedies. It does love stories and, more often still, it does heartbreaks. This piano isn’t for everyone or every occasion, but when we think of a piano and really hear it in our heads and hearts, this is the sound of Soundiron.
Functionality
We’ve added a variety of specialized tone, effect and performance shaping controls on the front instrument panel, providing everything from subtle tonal reshaping to dramatic otherworldly effects. Please be aware that the value ranges for many of our controls allow you to go way beyond realistic behavior for this or any real-world piano.
We’ve created a variety of ready-made presets that present some of the many sides our piano has to offer. The “master” preset is the sound of our actual piano, essentially just as it feels and sounds in the flesh. The “soft” preset is entirely focused on the softer end of our piano’s dynamic range. Our goal was to dial in the perfect preset for slow, gentle, cinematic compositions. The “gentle blur” preset softens the tone, note shaping and performance characteristics to create a faded, soft and distant character, perfect for moodier, darker pieces. The “jazz” preset has been sharpened, brightened and has it’s dynamic response expanded to provide a tone more ideal for tight jazz pieces. Finally, for the “pseudo-granny” patch we did our best to prematurely “age” our piano and tip it up on it’s side into a pretty reasonable replica of our old busted granny piano.
The special effect presets take the piano a little farther into to the unnatural, ranging from simple stereo effects to growling retro organs. The ambient presets use custom convolution impulses to morph the sound into a wide range of melodic, dark, astral and often undefinable sounds.

NKI Program Presets
This library is designed for the latest free Kontakt Player version of the full retail version of Kontakt 4.2.3 or later. We’ve included 35 Kontakt 4-compatible nki programs, featuring automatable attack, release, dynamics, decay, pedal volume, release volume, EQ, convolution, and a full range of other effects controls. There are 5 main preset patches tuned with specific EQ settings. Each of the 5 presets also has a “lite” version wtih a much smaller memory footprint and lighter CPU load.
The included Convolution Reverb effect features 79 select custom impulse responses recorded from some of our favorite locations. Among those are also fx impulses which are more special effect than reverb.
