Q |
What do the various file formats work with?
|
A |
Our sample CD’s come in various format types which work with different types of hard/software.
WAV and Aiff - These are the native formats used by Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh respectively. These open directly in 99% of host software and samplers.
Akai - A file format originally created for use with Akai samplers. Most modern software samplers will allow files of this format to be imported or converted – such as EXS24, Halion and Kontakt.
EXS24 and Halion - These are instrument files created for use with Logic’s EXS24 and Halion Player sampler respectively. These include instruction such as the key mapping of samples. (These are not an audio sample format. They merely point the sampler in the right location of the samples, usually stored in the AIFF or WAV formats in a separate folder.) These too, can be converted via most modern soft samplers and some hardware samplers as well.
Audio - A format which can be played in tradition CD players. These need converting to another format in order to be used in a host or sampler.
You can either record specific parts of the audio CD into an audio editor (e.g. SoundForge) and then edit and save to your directory. Or, you could use an Audio Ripper (e.g. Audio Grabber) to do the work for you. This is a much more efficient way of doing it and extremely time-saving!
ACIDized Wav - These contain embedded information hidden inside the file which enables certain applications (e.g. Acid) to see information such as root key and amount of beats.
Apple Loop - Like ACIDized Wav, but solely for Apple based products like Garageband, iLife, Soundtrack and of course, Logic Pro. Contains details such as genre, Loop Length, Style etc... Very useful for faster, drag and drop style music creation.
Gig - These files have been created specifically for use with Giga products, like Gigastudio and GVI. These are both instrument and sample files compressed to a single file format. As with most file types, this too can be converted for use in other samplers.
Rex - These files contain loops that have been sliced up at the start of each hit or sound. They can then be played back at different tempos and each slice will play, at its original pitch without being time stretched. Stylus RMX, Reason’s REX Player, Logic and Cubase all support Rex files. Rex files can be created using Propellerhead’s Recycle.

Q |
Why won't my computer recognise the sample CD I have purchased?
|
A |
PCs & MACs will only recognise discs specifically formatted for their platform. It is not possible for the computer to recognise a sample CD formatted for a hardware sampler without 3rd party software such as software samplers.

Q |
Will Vocaloid products work on Vista?
|
A |
Yahama state that Vocaloid version 1 does not officially support Vista. However, it will work by doing the following:
Run "Activate" with administrator privilege.
It is also recommended that the user run Vocaloid Editor with administrator privilege as well. To do this, go to the Program FilesVocaloid folder, right-click Vocaloid.exe and select "properties". Check the "Run as administrator" checkbox. Then do the same thing for Activate.exe that is in the same folder.
Vocaloid should then work in Vista.

Q |
What if a School, College, Studio or other institution purchases a product?
|
A |
The Licence covers the release of original tracks using the sounds and produced by the establishment or studio name -individual names can be added. If an individual within the organisation wishes to use the sounds as produced under his own name, that person must purchase another disc in order to obtain a licence agreement.
|
|
| |
Q |
Do I have to credit my use of the sounds on my album sleeve, etc?
|
A |
This is not always essential, but of course it would be appreciated - and some developers make it an absolute condition within their user license. If you have any other questions about usage or licensing, please contact us.
|
|
| |
Q |
Who else can use the sounds from the product that I purchased?
|
A |
Nobody, unless they also purchased the same product from brand new. Only the ORIGINAL PURCHASER of has the right to use the sounds commercially. This means that you CANNOT SELL or give the sounds to anyone else. If you do, and they use the sounds within a commercial release, they will have to pay royalties to Time+Space for using the sounds. You will also have broken the law.
|
|
| |
Q |
How can I use the sounds?
|
A |
You may use the sounds in combination with other sounds within your musical compositions. You may release such compositions commercially without payment of any further fees or royalties for such usage. For example, if you are the original purchaser of a sample CD, and you used sounds from it to create the soundtrack of a television commercial, simply by combining a drum loop sample with a guitar loop sample, and the TV advert was broadcast hundreds of times, you would keep all the royalties that the advert earns you, because you already purchased a private license to use the sounds commercially. You cannot use the sounds in isolation (i.e. when not within musical compositions) as part of a commercially released project - for instance you cannot use the sounds to make another sample CD, or "library music" sound file album, or multimedia sound library CD-ROM.
|
|
| |
Q |
Can I use the sounds on Time+Space Sample CDs in my music produtions?
|
A |
When you puchase a Sample CD, you are NOT obtaining OWNERSHIP of the sounds - you are in fact purchasing a LICENSE to use the sounds within your musical compositions, whether or not your compositions are released commercially. For more information see our Customer Services page.

Q |
How can I use comprssed Giga files on my MAC?
|
A |
All or most compressed Giga CDs, whether single or spanned across multiple discs, use PC compression as they were originally designed for a PC platform. Many people request that they can be used on a MAC running a .gig file compatible software sampler (e.g. EXS24). In order to uncompress or join the files, you need to use the full version of Stuffit Expander.

Q |
How do I convert my Audio CD to WAV?
|
A |
You can either record specific parts of the audio CD into an audio editor (e.g. SoundForge) and then edit and save to your directory. Or, you could use an Audio Ripper (e.g. Audio Grabber) to do the work for you! This is a much more efficient way of doing it and extremely time-saving!

Q |
How do I install my ProSamples CD?
|
A |
The booklet supplied with each ProSamples volume provides instructions on how to install the program files and samples although this is not always clear! If you are having problems installing, please call us on 0901 88 00 002 for detailed instructions (calls cost 25p/min).

| |
Q |
Why won't my MAC recognise my mixed-mode (e.g. Audio+Akai) Sample CDs?
|
A |
This is most likely because you are running OS9 or later. You will need to change the Apple CD/DVD Driver Extension for an earlier version. Apple changed this driver with OS9 and as a result, your MAC will only see the audio partition of mixed-mode CDs. The driver is available from us via email.

Q |
I have Windows 98 and Cubase VST - Why isn't Atmosphere appearing in the plugins list? What do i need to do?
|
A |
The Atmosphere.dll file that installs with the newer, 1.2 DVD version of Atmosphere, (on occasion) will not work with older Windows OS's and older versions of Cubase.
First, check that the Atmosphere.dll file is in the correct VST Plugins folder. By default, it won't necessarily install to the correct location.
Manually find where your other vst plugins are and make sure the Atmosphere.dll is put there, along with the Atmosphere.dat file, or shortcut to it.
Typically, the location of the vst plugins folder will be something like:
C:/Program Files/Steinberg/VST Plugins
C:/Program Files/Steinberg/Cubase/VST Plugins
If you have made sure the .dll file is in the right place, but it wont appear within the Cubase plugins list, email support@timespace.com and we will be able to email the older Atmosphere.dll file to you.
This is the same Atmosphere.dll file that installed with the original CD versions of Atmosphere.
