Time+Space software stars in this year's TEC Award nominations

The NAMM show is rapidly approaching which also means the TEC awards are just around the corner too. We’re absolutely delighted to say that there are 6 nominations from Time+Space in the shortlists for Software Instruments, Signal Processing Software (Effects), and Signal Processing Software (Dynamics/EQs/Utilities).

This year the TEC awards will be hosted by Demetri Martin at the NAMM show on the 27th January. 2018 will mark the 33rd anniversary of these prestigious awards, and we can’t wait to see the awards handed out - not only to the best in the previously listed categories but also in categories such as ‘Studio Monitors’. ‘Production Essentials’, and loads more!

Here are the Time+Space software stars featuring in this year´s nominee line-up...

Software Instruments

EastWest - MIDI Guitar Series

The MIDI Guitar Series from EastWest brings a huge host of amazing EastWest instruments to the fingertips of guitarists everywhere. Working closely with Fishman’s software developers EastWest have optimised these instruments for the complex and unique waveforms produced by guitar strings. Pitch bends, whammy bar, dynamics, etc. all function as expected, and in fact provide a much more organic experience than using the instruments with a keyboard and mod wheel.

Spectrasonics - Keyscape

Arguably the holy grail of keyboard emulations, Spectrasonics has spent years putting together this amazingly faithful collection of modern and vintage keyboards. Everything from the mighty Bosendorfer to the funky D6 Clavinet, Keyscapes has it all. It’s even got complete compatibility with Omnisphere 2, so you can layer your Keyscape pianos over the spectacular synthesis available through Omnispheres STEAM engine.

Signal Processing Software (Effects)

FabFilter - Pro-R

FabFilter entered the game with some incredibly powerful, yet simply laid out EQs and Compressors. Since then they’ve expanded and brought some of the best processing to bear with saturation plugins like Saturn, delays like Timeless 2, and even a synthesizer - Twin 2. This year, the focus is directed towards their, now essential, Pro-R reverb plugin. Pro-R has been widely admired and praised by most review outlets, and even industry heavyweight Dave Pensado described it as ‘...truly groundbreaking!’

Zynaptiq - Adaptiverb

Adaptiverb is accurately described as a ‘resynthesis reverb’. This is because it’s not based upon reflections or modelling a reverberation that you’d hear in a room or cave. Adaptiverb adds perceived depth, harmonic richness, and butter-smooth tails without obscuring the source. Preserving the tonal definition and directness of your mix, it adds size, glue and body. The GUI is wonderfully tweakable, with descriptive controls that will make you want to play for hours on end.

Signal Processing Software (Dynamics/EQs/Utilities)

iZotope - Neutron 2

Neutron 2 is your one-stop shop for nearly every mixing job you might have. From musical to post-production, the dynamic and EQ modules in this plugin are amazing. Aside from its award-winning processing, it also has a whole host of features that make it a mixers dream. Put it on each track and take advantage of the Visual Mixer, or the Masking Meter. Lastly, improvements to the Track Assistant give you the starting preset you deserve. There’s no quicker way to start sculpting your sound.

iZotope RX6

Oh iZotope, you’ve got to let other people have a turn at getting awards too. Except you don’t because RX6 was an absolutely spectacular development to what was already THE post-production editing and cleaning tool. There isn’t a huge amount to add overall, with RX6 already sweeping up the Music Tech Magazine award for Best Software Effect/Utility in 2017. If you do post production you probably already own it, and if you don’t... Well, you´re just making life difficult for yourself.

Softube - Tape

A tape emulation I can drop onto every track without reducing my computer to a melted pile of garbage, finally! This plugin gives amazingly detailed and faithful recreations of three tape machines. Type A is based on a classic Swiss high-end reel-to-reel machine, known and loved for its precision and linearity. Type B is much more colorful—it´s a transformer based machine which adds extra weight and cream to the low end. Lastly, Type C is based on a British tape machine with a distinct vintage vibe.
