VSL Big Bang Orchestra: Black Eye is the second in a series of Big Bang Orchestra tutti orchestral recordings. It extends the series with ready-orchestrated phrases and FX for modern effect-oriented composition, allowing you to create large-scale orchestrations from scratch–seamlessly, easily and with a huge out of the box sound.
Big Bang Orchestra: Black Eye provides you with all-new musical elements, such as hits, rips, runs, clusters, tension sustains, rhythms, arpeggios, grace notes, echo effects and more, all played in Synchron Stage Vienna by a large 70-piece orchestra.

From rhythmic textures to floating spheres
Hundreds of tension-charged clusters are available as short and long crescendos in several complex stages, with and without marcato. Sustained textures are divided into several groups, some of which either shift slightly in pitch (microtuning), or gravitate gradually towards the root note (or vice versa). Others don’t change in pitch, but in volume, with different sections of the orchestra alternating their volume resulting in a sustained tone that’s constantly changing its colours.
A “seagull arpeggio” effect is created by flageolet glissandos played on open strings, with the accompanying wind instruments playing arpeggios that follow the overtone series of the strings.
The so-called Shuffled Sustains deliver some form of controlled chaos, where different groups of the orchestra play complementary rhythmic patterns. Due to its complex structure, this effect can be used independently of tempo and provides a propelling density that lends itself well to underscores, for instance.
A special effect for dramatic accents is provided by the “Graced” patch, in which the instruments of the high register rip towards a target note, which is reinforced by the rest of the orchestra with a powerful marcato-staccato. The “staccato-sordino sustains” provide a special spine-tingling sensation – while the fortississimo staccato of brass and low strings rings out, a very soft high note played by the muted strings remains, illustrating the dynamic range of the orchestra in a split second. The Echoes and the Register Delay patches add even more variety to the category of Hits.
What’s more, Big Bang Orchestra: Black Eye provides a wide range of “classic” orchestra hits with all major, minor, open and diminished chords, octave grace notes, octave trills, a variety of short rips as well as longer major and minor runs in breathtaking tempos, where especially the instruments of the lowest register were deliberately pushed to their limits.

Big Bang Orchestra: Black Eye - Mixer Presets
It's easy to create the perfect mix for your arrangement with your Big Bang Orchestra mixer presets. These are the same presets for Andromeda and Black Eye to guarantee a consistent sound. We provide 6 levels of reverberation and additional processed presets with each of our microphone setups:
Our factory mixer presets are based on the room microphones, leaving the section microphones disabled.
Section microphones (further to the right in the mixer) can be added to emphasize the power of certain sections.
Activate additional channels by clicking on the channel name. This will load the samples required for playback, and the faders have been set to good starting points to customize your mix.
Change the level, panning, delay and channel EQ settings for each channel, and of course you are free to insert any of the built-in FX plug-ins to further optimize your sound.
Room Mix Presets
The most resource-friendly presets: Based on a room mix we created from all available room microphones, you will get an impressive sound that will help you to manifest your orchestral ideas on every device.
Stereo Decca Tree Presets
The "Decca tree" is the microphone tree that is the heart and soul of every orchestral recording. It consists of a main stereo channel and a mono center channel and captures the details of the room from the conductor’s perspective.
Surround to Stereo Presets
Enjoy the massive sound of all available room microphones, including the decca tree mics, down-mixed to a stereo signal. You will get a great impression of the huge sound our Synchron Stage Vienna is known for.
If you insert your Synchron Player as a surround plug-in in your sequencer, these presets will provide the starting point for your surround setup.
We have added some compression using the integrated compressor to achieve an even more powerful sound of the Big Bang Orchestra. Feel free to add more FX as you create the symphonic sound of your desire.
