Sample Libraries are collections of recorded sounds, otherwise known as samples, that once purchased can be used in musical compositions by music producers without paying additional royalties to the original creator. The samples contained in these libraries can usually be loaded directly into a music creation package like Ableton, Cubase, FL Studio, Garageband, Logic, Pro Tools and Reason, or into a software sampler like EXS24 or Native Instruments Kontakt.
The sounds included in a sample library can be presented in the following forms;
- A musical loop or phrase recorded at a specific tempo which can be looped or repeated in an arrangement.
- Single note recordings or multi-samples which can be used to create a musical phrase or performance using the recorded source.
- One shot stabs or hits which would commonly be sounds effects or percussive hits.
